Visual Story Telling – Presenting an Experience

Visual Story Telling is the process by which an author presents a work to readers as a work of art. There are many forms of Visual Story Telling such as Visualization, Installation, Movement, Role-playing, and Synthetic storytelling. Visualization allows for the author to present the work of art as though it was in 3D. Visualization can be done through stills, moving images, video and sound. Visualization is used to make an abstract work more tangible and concrete. It helps the author to create an environment that allows the reader to imagine themselves as a part of the work of art.

Visualization can also be called “folk art.” Visual story telling takes elements from everyday life experiences and uses them to present an abstract work of art. An excellent example of visual storytelling would be a poem by Robert Frost. He took selected poems from each year and visualized them in his work.

Robert Frost’s book The Bowl (1940) is considered one of his best works. In this book, Frost tells of the winter days spent shoveling snow. Frost also describes his loneliness and desire to escape from the demands of everyday life. His longing for something beautiful and unfamiliar drove him to visit the village where he discovered the beauty of the locals and their activities. From that point forward, Visual Story Telling became a major influence on Robert Frost’s work.

David Bowie introduced “The Starry Night” as an inspiration for his song “Space.” His interest in outer space and the symbolic qualities of the stars began to shape his approach to visual story-telling. More recently, Christopher Nolan used visual storytelling to tell stories about the war in Iraq. Both of these artists have achieved critical acclaim for their visual storytelling. As a result, visual story-telling has become more than just an influence on modern art.

The term ‘visual story-telling’ was first coined in 1980 by Richard Sander and Mark Langan. The term has since become associated with other fields such as cinema, television, advertising and fine arts. The idea behind visual story-telling is to create a story that makes use of images and objects within the environment. In other words, it is an approach to aesthetics that utilizes pictures and movies to tell a story or make a point. It differs from other aesthetic engagements because it requires the creator of the work to determine how an image will relate to its environment. Visual story-telling involves an artistic assessment of one’s surroundings as well as a determination of how the work will affect the viewer.

Visual story-telling is not a static form of aesthetic engagement; rather it is an ongoing process that continually affects viewers. The work of visual story-tellers constantly change and advance their craft. With each new work of visual story-telling, the methods and techniques used are determined and altered to ensure that they continue to contribute to the progression of artistic thought. Visual story-tellers are considered skilled in the fine art of telling a story through images and their stories are appreciated for their aesthetic and esthetic value. This art form has increased in popularity in the past decade.

Visual Story Telling is the work of Francesco Franchi and has gained popularity in the last few decades for several reasons. One reason is that it is considered an independent medium and there are many artists who have successfully made use of visual story-telling in both film and theater. Another reason is that visual story-telling is non-verbal. This means that the audience does not receive messages or information through the eyes, but rather through feelings, intuition, imagination and other human senses.

Visual story-telling is very different from traditional film making and requires a unique and highly creative artist. It is also a labor of love, since visual story-telling artists spend hours in the process of bringing to life their imagined worlds. Visual Story Telling can be very challenging and rewarding. If you have an eye for color, creativity and a wide-range of emotions, you may find yourself becoming a skilled visual story-teller in no time at all.
