2022 is shaping up to be an amazing year for anime, with dozens of new series and films coming out in January alone. If you’re looking to get into anime, this list will help you get started. If you’re already an anime fan, these shows are guaranteed to keep you entertained! New releases are marked in bold and are followed by their premiere date (if they have one). No sequels or prequels made the list; we’ll have to save those articles for another day! With that said, let’s get right into it! (In order of release.)
Dagashi Kashi 2
If you enjoyed the first season of Dagashi Kashi, then you’ll be happy to know that the second season is premiering in January 2022. The anime follows the story of Kokonotsu Shikada, a high school student who doesn’t want to take over his family’s sweets shop. However, everything changes when the eccentric Hotaru Shidare arrives and tries to convince him to change his mind. With an intriguing story and lovable characters, Dagashi Kashi 2 is sure to be one of the best new anime of the year.
Amanchu! Advance
If you’re looking for a relaxing show with beautiful animation, then Amanchu! Advance is definitely worth checking out. There are some great scenes that make use of underwater physics and art. The characters are diverse and their personalities are engaging enough that they keep the plot moving forward even when the tension in the story isn’t as high as it could be. It’s also a nice break from all the violence in other shows like Attack on Titan, so if you’re looking for something new and lighter this month then look no further than Amanchu! Advance!
Rilu Rilu Fairilu ~Yousei no Door~
This adorable anime follows the adventures of little creatures called Fairilu, who each have their own special talent. When Fairilu is born, they are given a seed that will grow into their own magical door. Rilu Rilu Fairilu ~Yousei no Door~ follows the journey of Lala, a young Fairilu who is just learning about her magic and her place in the world. Along with her friends Mofurun and Oresky, she meets new people as she explores the vast lands beyond her home forest. With adorable animation, relatable characters, and plenty of laughs along the way, this anime is sure to be a hit for viewers aged 4-12 years old.
Egao no Daika ~Kigurumi Daikatsuyaku-sen!
Egao no Daika is a brand new anime that will be released in January of 2022. The story follows a group of Kigurumi who must work together to save their planet from destruction. This anime is sure to be filled with action, adventure, and comedy. Be sure to check it out when it comes out!
Darling in the FranXX
Fans of quirky magical girl shows will want to check out Magical Girl Ore, which follows the story of a girl who transforms into a super-powered magical girl to save her crush from a group of evil criminals. The show is equal parts heartwarming and action-packed, with plenty of humor thrown in for good measure.
